Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at One Child Center for Autism

One Child is Accepting New Clients for Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy (OT) focuses on helping children improve their cognitive, physical, sensory, and motor skills and enhance their self-esteem and sense of accomplishment. Pediatric occupational therapists incorporate play into practice as a way of motivating children to meet their goals.

Occupational therapists can address:

  • Fine Motor Skills  (grasping toys, using utensils, handwriting skills)
  • Hand-Eye Coordination (hitting a target, batting a ball, copying from a blackboard)
  • Daily Living Tasks (getting dressed, brushing teeth)
  • Self-Regulation
  • Coordination
  • Evaluate the need for specialized equipment (wheelchairs, splints, bathing equipment, dressing devices, or communication aids)
  • Sensory Issues

How is OT Different from Physical Therapy? OT deals more with fine motor skills, visual-perceptual skills, cognitive skills, and sensory-processing deficits. Whereas Physical Therapy addresses gross motor functions and range of motion.

One Child provides OT for private pay clients and also accepts select health insurance plans.  Please note that One Child is unable to accept Medicaid at this time.
